What we do
Psychology, in general, is the study of human behaviour and how behaviour is affected by internal and external factors. We believe that psychology has much to offer transport and travel planning in behaviour change.
Our goal is to bring psychology researchers of travel behaviour together with transport professionals working in the field to provide the link between theory and practice. With close links between research departments of several UK universities and transport planners and engineers, the CTP seeks to bridge the divide and generate innovative solutions to modern transport problems.
The CTP fulfils two main functions:
Centre of Excellence
The CTP aims to be a centre of excellence providing a resource for transport planners and psychologists with links to research, and delivering evidence-based research, study and application in the field. We are continuously looking for original ideas and sharing information in behaviour change, road interactions, road safety, habitual constructs, self identity and group behaviour. We strive to collect best-practice evidence and research in the field from all areas of research.
If you are interested in discussing our areas of interest, or would like to ask a question, we’d love to hear from you. You can find our contact details on the bar to the left, or click here
Bespoke project work
The CTP offers bespoke work across a broad spectrum of research, review and design. Our areas of work can include:
- Collection of primary data using both quantitative and qualitative methods;
- Literature reviews to aggregate evidence;
- Evaluation and monitoring of projects;
- Guidance and implementation of behaviour change interventions;
- Staff seminars and workshops;
- A properly evaluated test of a new travel initiative.
Our key strength lies in the expertise and experience of our various members who may be employed as required for each individual project, based on their skill set. Together, our team creates innovative solutions to transport problems using the latest methods. To see some of our project experience, please visit the Project Examples page, which can be found here.
We are always interested to discuss any interests you may have, and would be more than happy to answer any queries. You can get in touch by following our contact details which can be found here.
